What are your plans this Valentine's Day?

Valentine’s Day is an annual occasion where many couples exchange cards and gifts – but it’s also a day when many people propose to their loved ones.

Also known as Saint Valentine’s Day or the Feast of Saint Valentine, apparently the link to romance began in the 14th century, when the tradition of ‘courtly love’ flourished. Now, you may ask what ‘courtly love’ means? …as I did, however it supposedly means the concept of love in a noble or chivalrous way. I’ve read lots of different interpretations, some unfortunately are less flattering than others.

Historically, poetry has always played a big role. Whereas in modern times we exchange cards featuring poems, I like to imagine queues of poets waiting at my door… but that’s just my mind wandering.

Back in 2015, The Telegraph online published an article where their writers picked the best love poems for every type of Valentines celebration. You might find some inspirational verses by taking a look; click here.

Of course, poetry might not be your thing, so perhaps your lover will swoon at some confectionery delights? ChouChoute (pronounced ‘shoo-shoot’) has a wonderful selection of chocolate treats on offer.

The Chocolate Deli also has a wonderful assortment, including their signature gift called ‘Choky Choo’; a high-heel shoe that’s made entirely of Belgian chocolate. That’s sure to impress and amuse shoe-lovers.

Then perhaps onward to a meal… and maybe the big question?

Whatever your plans are, always remember that the small, thoughtful gestures are sometimes the most important.

If you’re not celebrating Valentine’s Day, look at it as just another day in a year full of possibilities.
