What about writing your own wedding vows?

Writing your own vows is a special way of making your ceremony personal and what better time to look deep into the eyes of your future spouse and tell them exactly how you feel! If you do want to write your own vows you will need to use a Celebrant as registrar's generally won't allow you this kind of freedom.

So you want to write them or maybe you've been gently pushed by your partner but what should you write? Well that's a very tricky question and will largely depend on you and whether you wear your heart on your sleeve or not.

Your Celebrant will be able to help as starting from a blank page can often lead to writer's block! How do you feel when you think of that all important person in your life... what do they mean to you and what are your hopes for the future? A good Celebrant will be able to give you some vow wowers (as we call them) to get you started.

Make a list of words and then try and put them into sentences. Vows don't have to be war and peace and they don't have to be super slushy. Don't be afraid to inject some humour to lighten the occasion. Equally, if you are a "wear my heart on my sleeve" kinda person, go with it. Most people love a good wedding and are happy to share in the romance of it all. However, men we can't promise that you won't get just a bit of teasing next time you’re in your man cave with your buddies.

So whether you fancy declaring undying love or telling your significant other that they are the best thing since sliced bread, writing your own vows can give your wedding that personalised touch.
